Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Practical Guide to Your Future
Published in Paperback by Patient-Centered Guides (15 April, 2000)
Average review score:

18 Year Survivor and Counting!!!I am an 18 year survivor of Osteoganic Sarcoma and I found this book to be one of the best and informative books I've ever read. I read things that I didn't even know about my disease or the long term late effects due to the chemotherapy I received. I will admit, at times it was TOO much information, but it was all factual and there were things that I read that I had to come to term with. I have an appointment at a Late Effects Clinic in a few weeks, and I am eager to get on with the rest of my life. A big Thank You to the authors who took so much time doing research and putting their own blood, sweat and tears into such an awesome project!!! Sincerely, Diane Trautman Smith
Must Have Resource for Survivors! This book is what every survivor, their parent(s) and thier doctor needs! It is comprehensive and well laid out...I love how I can easily find information on areas of concern I have regarding my son's survival. It has come in handy during follow up appointments to ensure my son is receiving the proper long term care. There is a compact card in the back of the book where all information about the child's treatment can be recorded so the child will have easy to access, concise information regarding their surgeries, chemotherapy drugs, radiation amount and type, etc. I know this will be an indispensible tool for my son as he grows up. I applaud the authors for writing a much-needed book. This book is a MUST-HAVE for EVERY childhood cancer survivor!
Childhood Cancer Survivors - a must readOnce again Nancy Keene provides information for patients and families that is just not available in this detail anywhere else. Her disease specific description of late effects and life after chemotherapy enables the reader to receive benefits that will effect for the rest of their lives. Information such as monitoring potential life threatening effects from treatment are just invaluable for the future of children surviving cancer and continuing into adulthood. I would urge any patient/parent/family member coming off active chemotherapy to pick up this book. Trust me you will have many, many book-marked pages. Our child just concluded his treatment and this book has not been very far from my side.

She is determended to bring a small familly happiness. Enjoy reading!
My Favorite BookThis was my favorite book I have ever read. When you start reading somewhere around the second page it gets very suspenseful. It is so full of suspense that you can't put it down until you finish it. Nancy does not get a lot of help from her 2 cousins, Bess and George, that usually help her on solving cases. There are 3 villains in this book. They are Nitaka, Anton and Mr. Wassel. Mr. Wassel is a purse snatcher, Nitaka steals things and Anton helps Nitaka most of the time. I really liked this book a lot.
Nancy Drew Book # 24 - The BestI thought the book was very suspenseful and was very well written. I am doing a book jacket for a class project on it. It ill be interesting to see my review on the cover of my prospective of the book. I want to read the rest of the series of the books.

Haunted Showboat (Nancy Drew, No 35)
Published in Hardcover by Price Stern Sloan Pub (January, 1958)
Average review score:

You Especially Have to Read this One at Mardi Gras Time!!What a chilling way to look at Mardi Gras in the Deep South! Nancy and her pals, Bess and George, are off on another adventure - this time to the river and bayou country near the Big Easy! Nancy and her friends solve an old family mystery while trying to end a lovers quarrel while trying to find a fortune in buried treasure. Having grown-up near New Orleans as a child, and visiting there for over 35 years, I can say that the majority of this book is true to life. It gives the reader a charming glimpse into the excitement of Mardi Gras and the relaxed ease of the river plantation life where unfortunately many things are "gone with the wind". Le Bon Temps Rolle (That's New Orleans talk for "Let the Good Times Roll!"
ThrillingThe Haunted Showboat has been the best book I have ever read. The setting is so classic, the mystery is so chilling, and the characters are somewhat unique. It just happened to be that we were driving to Washington when I was reading this, and every now and then when I'd get bored, I'd just pick this up and enjoy myself. When we were passing by the Columbia Gorge, we traveled across it and I just read the book and once in a while I looked at the scenery. It just gave me this special feeling that made me feel really relaxed. And when we were in our apartment, I would sometimes read that book instead of watching TV!
So, from what you've heard here, I would definitely recommend that you don't miss this one.
The Haunted ShowboatI think this book was GREAT! It's good for all ages. Nancy tries to solve the mystery of the River Princess and it was so goos I didn't want to put the book down.

The Slumber Party Secret
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

The Coolest MysteryRebecca Ramirez is having a slumber party. Her parents allow her only to invite eight guests. The next day she loses her party invitations and some more very important items for the party. Nancy, her friend, was willing to help her, along with Bess and George too. Some sneaky things go on before the party and during it.
Usually first books are not as good as the rest of a series, but this one seems to be very good. Actually it is the best one I read so far.

THE BEST CHAPTER BOOKS FOR AGES 5+ !...If your daughter likes chapter books and solving puzzles; then this is a great book for her. The characters come to life and have separate personalities. The stories are simple and fun. I finish one and my daughter immediately wants another book. If I get through all the ones I order online then she wants me to re-read them. They have about 8 chapters so I make it last a week with 2 chapters on the last night. I started my daughter out when she was 3, on the old Raggedy Ann and Andy chapter books which are in reprint now. She had a little bit of a hard time going from a book with all pictures to a book where you imagine most of it. The Nancy Drew stories were a little hard to get started on because her complaint was that the pictures (1 or 2 per chapter) are all black and white drawings. I told her that she can look at the cover to see the color picture. Once she heard the first chapter, she didn't care if it had pictures or not. She was hooked. You know I liked these books so well I just bought my daughter's school a set of 10 for their library. They are really good. If you want your child to start early on reading get them started on this series. I hope that one day my daughter will be reading them to me. :o) Enjoy!
Enjoyed it!If you like mysteries, you will like this book. It's adventerous, a little scary and fun as Nancy tries to figure out who stole the party invitations from Rebecca.

Exhibition of Evil

Very Interesting PlotThis book had a terrific plot. The end was very unexpected. I thought it added a nice touch to both the Hardys and Nancy
Twisty and Turny, with a great plot.I loved this one. I've read it at least five times, and the ending is still suprising. Who'd have known that a whole city could be built on lies? A great read for any mystery fan.
Reader from Brattleboro, VermontThis books exitment rises and just makes you read more and more until you can't stop; then you reach the end of the book. I highly suggest this book to anyone looking for something better to do on a boring day. It changed my week!

I Read It, but I Don't Get It: Comprehension Strategies for Adolescent Readers
Published in Paperback by Stenhouse Pub (October, 2000)
Average review score:

Down to earthTovani's approach to teaching reading to the most reluctant of learners is rather insightful. She does an excellent job of pointing out the assumptions that above-average readers make while reading that are not necessarily a part of the reluctant reader's experience. The only criticism I have of the book is that I had hoped to find ready to use material for the classroom. Instead, I found that while reading, it forced me to re-evaluate my own instructional approach. Ultimately, this is probably a far better thing than any quick fix approach. If you teach inner city kids or kids who come from homes where reading is not the norm, I believe you will find this book most helpful to your overall approach to managing the language arts classroom.
I Read It, But I Don't Get It Comprehension Strategies forIf you teach English/language arts, this book is a MUST!!! So often teachers assume their students can read well, but they are also good at faking it. This book helps teachers use real reading strategies in a practical way. I bought a few copies for my team to read this summer. I hope there is more to come from Cris Tovani.
Now I Get It!We can finally stop giving up on high school students who just "don't get it." We don't have to surrender to the impulse to say "they will never be readers." In this book, Chris Tovani offers concrete strategies to guide struggling adolescent readers through a process that has become inaccessible to them.
It is energizing and exciting to have these tools to take to a classroom or a home with a frustrated teenager who does not believe in his or her ability to ever read well. It is the second chance that most high school students who are not excellent readers never believe can be theirs.
Now that "I Get It," I can't wait to take it to the classroom and help some young people learn why it is that people who truly read, love to read.

Desperate Measures

Desperate CriminalsThis book has some really desperate criminals in it. I thought the suspense and the things they got themselves into was neat. Like burning the cabin down with them in it at the end and going spulunking in that cave was wild!!! I really liked this book!!

The Rising
Published in Hardcover by Delirium Books (01 March, 2003)
Average review score:

In Your Face HorrorKeene takes his place among the new wave of horror authors devoted to that old 'pulp' tradtion Harry Shannon celebrated last year with Night of the Beast. "The Rising" is solid, fun and freakout weird. It is also violent and never lets up. For anyone who likes their horror the old-fashioned way. And man can these zombies move. No slow-mo stuff here, they got track shoes LOL
Great Book!Smart, literary, and horrific--this is one fun and gruesome read!
Better Than 28 Days LaterThis is absolutely not only one of the *best* zombie novels I've ever read, but one of the best horror novels period. Extreme horror written with intelligence, dark humor and characters that you care about.

The Secret in the Old Attic
Published in Hardcover by Price Stern Sloan Pub (August, 1974)
Average review score:

One Of The Best Of The SeriesThis review concerns the original 1944 edition and the revised 1970 edition which closely follows the plot of the original, with a few small changes. Elderly Mr. March approachs Nancy seeking her help to find his deceased son's unpublished sheet music. Mr. March desperately needs the money to care for his granddaughter, Susan. Unfortunately, a thief has been secretly entering the March house and stealing whatever songs that he can find and publishing them himself. I really enjoyed this book. In my opinion, it is the second or third best of the series (I can't decide between it and The Bungalow Mystery; The Hidden Staircase is my #1). I found it to be well-written, highly descriptive, and had quite a bit of action. The climax of the book, when Nancy finally finds the music and is confronted by the thief, is perhaps the best scene of the series for its originality, excitement and suspense. The only thing that I did not like about this book, was how the thief was caught because Nancy had pretty much nothing to do with actually capturing him.
you'll relish this oneAs a child I delighted in the Nancy Drew stories, and I've re-read them at various times since. "The Secret in the Old Attic" is a well-plotted, satisfying thriller in which Nancy finds the manuscripts for some songs which will help to restore the fortunes of her elderly friend, Mr. March, and his young granddaughter. Nancy's chums, plump and frilly Bess and her tomboyish cousin, George, help Nancy in her investigations. Hannah Gruen is on hand to provide cocoa and comfort. Nancy sits down at the piano and plays some of the songs, demonstrating yet another of her fine abilities.
All-American Nancy shines as she solves the mystery and brings the criminals to justice. Young readers will be entranced. Highly recommended.
A Great BookI read a great book called Nancy Drew and the Mystery In the Old Attic by Carolyn Keene. My favorite part of the 180-page book was when Nancy Drew and her friends came so close to finding the thief. If you want to learn more about this wonderful book then go to your local library. Nancy Drew and the Mystery in The Old Attic was really a very good book! There are many great surprises.

Till Death Do Us Part
Published in Paperback by Archway (December, 1988)
Average review score:

No one seems to know exactly who Jessica Thorne is...Nancy Drew's long-time beau Ned Nickerson finally asks her to marry him, and Nancy reluctantly refuses him. No surprise there, right? Wrong! The very next night, Ned announces his engagement to a rich, beautiful girl, Jessica Thorne.
No one seems to know really who Jessica is and where's she's from, except that she is a newcomer to River Heights -- and to Ned's life.
Jessica lives at the Royal Hotel, throws herself lavish wedding showers and she really seems to love Ned, but Nancy doesn't think she does, and neither does Ned.
Ned claims that Jessica is an opportunist, but he doesn't know why she wants to marry him. Could it be money?
Jessica tries hard to make friends with Nancy, a girl she knows is Ned's "jilted" girlfriend.
Jessica challenges Nancy to go skydiving, and Nancy accepts. Soon after jumping out of the airplane, Nancy realizes her parachute won't open, but Jessica comes to the rescue. Was the parachuting incident an accident, or was there a more sinister plot behind it?
Nancy must find the key to unlock Jessica's past, before it's too late.
This book is in my top 5 favorite Nancy Drew Files.
Nancy does a perfect job of playing the part of a jilted lover.
My favorite part in this book is at Jessica's wedding shower, when Nancy gives Jessica a mirror, saying, "You strike me as the type of girl who likes to look at herself a lot!"

Romance, mystery and a whole lot of excitement!I have read this book many times and I simply love it.
Nancy Drew is heartbroken when her longtime boyfriend, Ned Nickerson, announces his engagement to Jessica Thorne, a beautiful new girl in town, the day after proposing to her (she refused it). Nancy confronts Ned and learns that he is engaged to her to find out her true purpose for marrying him. Nancy gets down on the case. She learns a lot of things about Jessica, while, each moment, Jessica is getting more and more dangerous for Ned and her. The book ends in a fascinating chase, where Nancy is trying her best to save Ned's life.
I read this book for the fourth or fifth time last night; I started it at around 8:30 and finished in about an hour. It's very gripping and it always amazes me how Nancy solves mysteries; the way she gets down to them and eats, thinks and dreams mysteries. This is a great book and provides the reader with immense satisfaction on finishing it. Hats off to Carolyn Keene!
